Filtex Central Vacuum / AirVac got its start in Los Angeles in the 1960's. Through the 60s, 70s, and 80s, Filtex carved its way into the central vacuum market mainly because of it's efficient and reliable motors. Today, Filtex central vacuum power units are no longer in production.

In the late 80s, Filtex was bought by M&S (Music and Sound) which was later acquired in the early 90s by Chamberlain Industries. In 2005, Linear LLC bought the company and is now known as Nortek. They still manufacture central vacuum power units for the Broan-NuTone brand, however, the Filtex brand is no longer in production.

Gator Vacuum was established in 1989 in Coral Springs, FL by Robert Buckwald. Having been born into the vacuum business and taught by his father, Arnold, who owned several high-volume vacuum stores in Brooklyn, NY in the 1960’s, he already had a head start in the industry at a young age.

Gator Started off in a 600 sq. ft. building in 1989, but quickly had to expand.
